Designed as a poster series for a fictional Polar Night Festival, this project explores typography as a primary storytelling tool. Inspired by the Arctic's quiet intensity and the movement of the aurora borealis, each poster captures a different dimension of the northern experience – where darkness meets light, wilderness runs untamed, and warmth emerges within extreme environments. Through expressive type, cinematic compositions, and motion design, the system evokes a sense of atmosphere, scale, and immersion.
Challenge
The challenge was to create a promotional poster series that captured the atmosphere of the Arctic without relying too heavily on literal imagery or destination photography. Instead, the visual language needed to communicate the emotional qualities of the Polar Night through typography, composition, and motion.
Approach
Inspired by the rhythm of the aurora borealis and the dramatic contrast between darkness and light, the posters use expressive typography as the primary storytelling element. Layered compositions, cinematic scale, and restrained color creates a sense of movement and immersion, allowing type to evoke the quiet intensity and wonder of the Arctic.
Outcome
The resulting series transforms event promotion into an atmospheric visual experience, demonstrating how typography can function as both information and image. Together, the posters establish a cohesive campaign identity that communicates the spirit of the festival while inviting viewers into the mystery and beauty of the Polar Night.
